Surfing In North Cornwall
Some of the best beaches for surfing include: Fistral, Watergate bay, Crooklets and Great Western to mention a few.
Fistral Beach in Newquay is probably the most well known and attracts all levels of surfers from beginners to advanced due to the excellent waves it gets. The beach is not one for dogs during peak season as it gets so busy, but out of season it's a great place for a windy walk with your four legged friend. Many events are held here throughout the year including the Rip Curl Boardmasters Surf Championships where you can sit and watch how the professionals do it!
Watergate Bay is just outside of Newquay and is a lovely two mile expanse of golden sands. The waves break on the beach in such a way that it makes Watergate popular for water sports such as surfing and kite-surfing all year round. This is also a great place for dogs as there are no seasonal restrictions.
Great Western Beach is sheltered, sandy beach in the centre of Newquay and is a great beach to go to if you want to learn to surf as the waves are not too big. This is another beach your dog can enjoy all year round.
Crooklets Beach is just outside Bude and is host to another gorgeous expanse of golden sand that stretches from Summerleaze to Northcott Mouth at low tide. The waves here are exhilarating and in the autumn/winter can reach up to 6 feet high.
